We begin along the North Coast, stopping in Cachorro and Lajido, two emblematic areas tied to Pico’s wine-making past. Here you’ll explore traditional adegas (wine cellars) and remnants of the island’s golden wine age, including small ports, tidal wells, and old distilleries.Continuing to São Roque, we pause to visit one of the island’s beloved natural swimming pools, formed by volcanic rock and cherished by the local community. Crossing toward the South Coast, the road offers sweeping ocean views and glimpses of the neighboring island of São Jorge, leading us to Lagoa do Capitão. Set within Pico’s protected central landscape, this beautiful crater lake is rich in native vegetation and an excellent spot for birdwatching.Midday, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, where you’ll taste traditional Azorean cuisine made with regional ingredients. In the afternoon, we explore Lajes do Pico, the island’s oldest settlement and former whaling capital. This relaxed break allows you to fully disconnect and appreciate the island in its purest and most tranquil form.In the afternoon, the journey continues with a visit to the Casa dos Vulcões, an interpretive center dedicated to the volcanic origins of the Azores.
